On November 4th, 2023, the first of four workshops in the Wired Youth: Science Forum (WYSF) project was held at the Valletta Design Cluster. Titled "Meet the Researchers," this engaging event ran from 9 am to 1 pm and focused on various aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact.

The workshop featured three insightful presentations and hands-on activities delivered by researchers from the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta

  • Job Market Impact - Delivered by Professor Alexiei Dingli, this session explored how AI is transforming the job market, discussing both opportunities and challenges.

  • AI-Generated Text – Led by Dr Claudia Borg, this segment demonstrated how AI can create text and the implications of this technology.

  • AI Audio-Visual Generation – Dr Dylan Seychell presented on AI's capabilities in generating audio-visual content, showcasing practical examples and potential uses.

Facilitated by representatives from Esplora and the Malta Chamber of Scientists, the workshop was attended by nine enthusiastic young people aged 15-18, all participants of the Wired Youth: Science Forum Project. The interactive format allowed these young people to engage directly with experts, fostering a deeper understanding of AI technologies and their real-world applications. This direct engagement enabled the participants to see firsthand the practical uses of AI, making science feel more accessible and less intimidating. By interacting with experts, the attendees were inspired by the possibilities within the field of science.

Stay tuned for updates on the next workshops in the series.
