On February 9th, 2024, the Wired Youth: Science Forum participants visited the computer labs at the Faculty of ICT - University of Malta, guided by Professor Gianluca Valentino, Associate Professor of Communications & Computer Engineering.

During the lab tour, Prof. Valentino provided insights into two projects: the DEEP-FIR project and the SAT-FIRE project. The DEEP-FIR project harnesses deep learning techniques for image super-resolution, pushing the boundaries of image quality enhancement. Meanwhile, the SAT-FIRE project focuses on enhancing sea surface temperature measurements from the Sentinel-3 satellite using advanced deep learning algorithms.

In addition to these projects, students also had the opportunity to witness the practical applications of technology in everyday life. They saw a hexacopter, a drone pivotal in a university-funded project aimed at aiding drivers in finding parking spots. This demonstration showcased how technology can be utilized to address real-world challenges and improve daily experiences.

The lab tour gave WYSF participants valuable insights into the exciting advancements happening in the field of ICT. It provided a glimpse into the future of technology and its potential to make positive changes in society, and may inspire the next generation of innovators and researchers.
